The only spiritual practice there is

People often say, “I want to learn to live from my heart.”  What does that mean?

Patients sometimes ask me to help them in “opening their heart.”  These kinds of abstractions can create a lot of suffering. Fortunately, there is a way to make this a practical reality.

To live from one’s heart is to listen to, speak, and live by your truth. It is about the truth. This is so simple, and the hardest thing there is. Every single decision, action, and word has this opportunity inside it.

If you pay attention, you will see that everyone and every single thing they are talking about is a reflection of this. It is in every moment of every day. It can be called inner integrity, self-intimacy, or living from the heart.

Every time I listen to the truth, no matter how scary or inconvenient, I am given a shot of personal power and aliveness that makes me a more potent person. Potency is like power, but without the connotation of aggressiveness or control. A potent person inhabits their own unique flavor and frequency so much, that when they walk into the room, you feel them right away. You only have to take one drop of a potent person to be completely affected by who they are.

Seeing and living the truth plugs you directly into your potency. Your potency is your joy and your effectiveness in the world. It is the best feeling. It is what everyone is coming here for, whether they know it or not.

Hiding from the truth in big ways is a form of self-rejection that is so detrimental, I actually believe it’s the number one cause of disease. It’s even worse than diet Pepsi or that pink chemical goo they make into chicken McNuggets.

There is this miraculous mechanism in this universe. There is a force at work that wants to open us to our truth. It will deliver people, jobs, illnesses, addictions – whatever it is you need – to bring you to the truth. It will go to any length. Realize that everything that comes into your life has come to help you see your truth, and you will see the kindness of the universe.

“Unless we learn the art of ‘seeing’ with inner integrity, we will not be able to see the truth and discover love. Heart emanates truth.” -Sri Amma
